Martyn Bouskila was born in 1954 and raised in London, England. He lived in Israel for three years following high school, returning to London to complete a B.F.A. in 1975. With a scholarship from Cranbrook Academy of Art, he moved to Detroit in 1979 and graduated with an M.F.A. in 1981. After graduation he remained in the United States to work for a small business until 1988, when he resigned his position as General Manager to become a full-time practicing artist. Bouskila has shown in galleries throughout the United States and has paintings in many corporate and private collections. He is currently working on a series called Postcards from Monera, which utilizes the chemical properties of industrial paints as a means of creating an imaginary microbial world. He has a studio in the Corktown district of Detroit and lives nearby with his girlfriend.
